Farmington Student Secures National Merit Scholarship
FARMINGTON, CT — In a commendable achievement, Bassil I. Chughtai, a Farmington resident and senior at Kingswood-Oxford School in West Hartford, has been awarded a National Merit Scholarship by Tufts University.
National Recognition and Financial Support
The National Merit Scholarship Corporation announced over 2,900 scholarship winners on Wednesday, each selected by the institution they plan to attend. These scholarships, ranging from $500 to $2,000 annually for up to four years, are part of a prestigious competition that evaluates finalists based on their academic excellence and potential.
Local Excellence in Education
Chughtai, who plans to study international relations at Tufts University, is one of the notable recipients from our local area. His selection underscores the academic rigor and dedication of students within our community.
Looking Forward
An additional group of Scholars will be announced in July, bringing the total number of college-sponsored Merit Scholarship recipients in the 2024 competition to more than 3,600. The National Merit Scholarship is a significant milestone that highlights the potential and future achievements of our youth.
