☕ A Slow Sip of Farmington News: Catch Up on the November 20th Meeting

✍️ On November 20th, 2024, the Farmington High School Building Committee gathered for their latest meeting. You can catch the full recording right here on YouTube.

The meeting at 501 Main Street, Farmington, CT, began with the Pledge of Allegiance and then moved on to business. Chairperson Jessica Collins started to say, “It’s 5:01 this evening. If we could stand for the Pledge of Allegiance.” After that, the team jumped into public comments (or lack thereof—”All right, so nobody for public comment.”) and quickly moved forward to approve the meeting minutes from October 16th and November 15th. “Motion passes,” confirmed the Chair after unanimous approval.

⭐ Zoning & Bricklaying News

The juicy bits started in item D, which covered correspondence from the public. The committee received several messages between October 12th and November 18th. Kudos to Jay Henderson and Stephen Anderson for their contributions—responses are already in the works, as discussed at the meeting. “We acknowledge that Jay gave us some feedback and additional comments,” noted the Chair. Anyone who wants to join the conversation, remember you can reach out via the contact form on our website.

Then came the significant updates on the building timeline. Committee member Chris Roberts highlighted that they’ve selected KBA Building Corporation for the renovation package. Chris emphasized, “Following those interviews, we selected KBA Building Corporation as the successful bidder.” Chris also ensured to nudge the ongoing buy-a-brick fundraiser (nice move, Chris). “Take advantage of the buy brick fundraiser,” Chris reminded everyone. Construction Updates—Progress to Celebrate

Nelson Ortiz from the construction management team reported that high school construction is 99% complete—woo-hoo! Just in time for basketball season, the gym floor will be game-ready by December 2nd. “High school construction pretty much 99% complete,” Nelson said. The additional student parking lot is on its way as well, with paving to be completed soon. Nelson added, “Additional student parking lot’s paving will be next week.”

Nelson also mentioned the drainage work at the 1928 building site is making good progress, with paving set for Thanksgiving week—just in time to make our turkeys and traffic jams a bit smoother. “The sub grades…that’s all nearing completion and paving also will take place on Thanksgiving week,” he reported. 🚗

The change orders were also reviewed. These included a $14,080 approval for wall padding in the seclusion room, a waterproofing project for $22,087, and work on irrigation that cost $60,188. “We did PCO 175…This is for wall padding in the seclusion room for $14,080,” Russell Thompson explained. All votes were unanimous—these folks do not mess around when it comes to keeping things moving!

Financials—Still Looking Good

The financials are strong, despite the usual series of change orders. Russ mentioned that contingencies are healthy, with a comfortable $1.8 million left in the owner’s contingency. “Financially, we’re still doing okay,” Russ assured. Committee Chair Jessica Collins confirmed that invoices are reviewed and sorted—not the most exciting part of the evening, but hey, someone’s gotta keep the lights on, right?

Other Highlights: No Meeting on Dec 4

The committee decided to cancel their first December meeting. “We can probably do a motion to cancel that one,” noted the Chair, before the motion was approved unanimously. So, you can enjoy December 4th without any extra Farmington agenda notifications lighting up your phone. The next meeting is scheduled for December 18th—mark your calendar!
