Farmington High School Building Committee Meeting – June 5, 2024

In a brief yet productive session, the Farmington High School Building Committee convened virtually on the evening of June 5th to discuss and approve several critical contracts related to the ongoing construction and refurbishment of Farmington High School. Here’s a comprehensive summary of the key decisions and future directions from the meeting.

The meeting was promptly called to order at 5:02 PM, beginning with the Pledge of Allegiance. The public comment section saw no participants, swiftly moving the committee to address new business.

Technology Contracts Awarded

The committee’s first action item involved awarding the technology contract for computer equipment. After reviewing the bids, the contract was awarded to SHI International Corp for $185,761.60. This decision followed a thorough review process, where the initial bid round was rejected to ensure the latest technology updates were included. SHI International, the second lowest bidder, was chosen as the lowest bid did not meet the required specifications. The contract includes additional computers for the physics labs, ensuring all specifications are met.

Audio Visual and Lighting Equipment Contracts

Next, the committee approved a contract with Sweetwater Sound Holdings LLC for audio-visual equipment and instruments, amounting to $15,847, and lighting equipment, which was a partial bid of $11,299.50. These bids, initially unresponsive in January, were reissued and successfully awarded this time. The lighting equipment bid, although partial, met all critical needs without leaving any essential items unaddressed.

Tennis Courts Contract

One of the significant approvals of the evening was the contract for the construction and enhancement of the tennis courts. Classic Turf Company LLC was awarded this contract for $956,644. This bid, inclusive of both the base and alternate pricing for perimeter and interior concrete curbs, chain link fencing, and gates, was recommended after a comprehensive review. This decision brings favorable financials and allows the inclusion of additional school-requested amenities. The committee highlighted that the contract fell under the allocated budget, promising future savings.

Future Directions

With the building opening scheduled for August, the committee emphasized the importance of keeping awards and contracts on track. The meeting concluded with an adjournment at 5:12 PM.

The committee continues to make steady progress toward the August opening, ensuring that Farmington High School is equipped with the latest technology and facilities. Stay tuned for further updates as we approach the project’s completion.
