Farmington, Conn. — In a three‑hour summer sprint on July 7, 2025, the Town Plan and Zoning Commission (TPZ) cleared six applications, two public hearings, and a preview of new cemetery pavement—all before anyone’s phone hit 5 percent battery. Highlights below.

Liz Sanford (acting chair) kept order with Robert Canto, David St. Germain, Peter Zarella, alternates Bruce Polsky and Mike Tucci. Matthew Bandle and Scott Halstead were absent.

  • Specs: ½‑inch acrylic letters, ⅛‑inch aluminum plate, double‑sided; each sign matches or shrinks existing square footage

2. Metal Supermarkets Consolidates Branding

  • Location: 170 Scott Swamp Grove
  • Proposal: Replace two façade signs with one 37.9‑sq‑ft sign (below 40‑sq‑ft limit)
  • Lighting: Existing wall‑pack only
  • Vote: 6‑0 approval

3. Big Sky Fitness Adds Parking, Cuts Clay

  • Address: 94 Brickyard Rd.
  • Plan: Remove unused clay tennis court; add 18 parking spots; net 3,000‑sq‑ft less impervious surface; include new water‑quality depression
  • Vote: 6‑0

4. River Walk Reimagined

  • Applicant: Farmington Land Trust
  • Work: Remove eroded fishing pier at 8738 River Rd.; restore bank with 48‑60‑inch boulders; build 80‑ft ADA boardwalk to a 16×16 ft cantilevered platform 4.25 ft above 100‑year flood line
  • Vote: 5‑0 (Polsky recused)

5. Carrier’s Expanded Home & Controlled Blast

  • Site: 112 Red Oak Hill Rd.
  • Size: 3,600 sq ft living, 4,800 sq ft total
  • Blasting: John Bear Inc.; 9 a.m.–3 p.m.; 15‑day neighborhood notice; three‑to‑five‑day drill/blast window
  • Vote: 6‑0

6. Cemetery Roads Face‑Lift

  • Preview: Riverside Cemetery to repave interior roads, widen river‑edge loop, add stone shoulder for sheet‑flow drainage. Formal wetlands review pending.

7. Truck‑Parking Rules Ahead

Staff teased a text amendment to curb oversized work trucks in driveways. Debate incoming.
