Attention all trail enthusiasts! The Farmington Bike and Pedestrian Advisory Committee recently held a meeting on May 8th to discuss the wild world of bollard safety. You know, those pesky posts that keep cars from crashing your trail party? Well, it turns out some of them have been misbehaving.
Committee member Dylan, our resident bollard whisperer, spilled the tea: “We have several bollards around town along the trails that are somewhat in compliance, somewhat not.” Gasp! Our bollards have been playing a game of “good post, bad post,” with two or three different types scattered about.
But fear not, dear readers! The committee plans to whip those unruly bollards into shape during future maintenance projects. “Next time we go through and do larger maintenance projects, those will be addressed,” Dylan declared, channeling his inner bollard disciplinarian. And for those posts that just can’t seem to stay in line? They might be saying goodbye. “There’s locations where I can see removing them, absolutely, you’re not wrong. However, to me, it’s a uniformity and it’s a safety thing,” Dylan mused, proving that even bollards can’t escape the long arm of the law.
The committee is all about balancing safety and practicality, so don’t be surprised if you see a few bollards mysteriously disappear. As one committee member put it, “Let’s, at some point, maybe this group or a subset of this group could look at some of the ones that could potentially go away.” It’s like a game of bollard musical chairs!
So, the next time you’re out on the trails, give a nod to those well-behaved bollards and a wink to the Farmington Bike and Pedestrian Advisory Committee for keeping our trails safe and enjoyable. Happy trails, everyone!
