Unleash Your Inner Surveyor: Farmington’s Search for a Chief of Surveys

Farmington, CT—Are you ready to trade your cubicle for the great outdoors and a paycheck that would make your mom proud? Look no further, because the Town of Farmington has just the opportunity for you! They are searching for a Chief of Surveys, which isn’t your typical desk job. Consider it a mix between Indiana Jones and Bob the Builder but with better benefits and a steady salary.

The Role: More Than Just a Fancy Title

As the Chief of Surveys, you’ll master all things topographic. If you accept it, your mission involves supervising an engineering survey party, would be great. Your team will conquer the great unknowns of Farmington’s landscape, determining the exact location and measurements of points, elevations, lines, areas, and contours. It’s like being a modern-day explorer but with a little less risk of being eaten by wild animals.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  1. Surveying the Scene: You’ll lead a team to survey public works construction projects, create maps, value land, and more. Your work will be the backbone of Farmington’s future infrastructure.
  2. Tech Savvy: You’ll be using the latest surveying technology, from GPS receivers to robotic equipment. There is updated tech here!
  3. Legal Eagle: Writing and reviewing legal descriptions for land conveyance will be part of your daily grind.
  4. Construction Whisperer: You’ll stake out sites for construction projects and inspect the work to ensure it meets all the right specs.
  5. Liaison Extraordinaire: Act as the go-to technical advisor for town officials, developers, and the public. Your wisdom will guide them through the labyrinth of permits and construction activity.

What We Need From You:

  • Certification as a Land Surveyor under Chapter 391 of the Connecticut General Statutes.
  • A Class II Connecticut Motor Vehicle Operator’s License (so you can drive all that fancy equipment).
  • An associate degree in land surveying, civil engineering, or a related field.
  • Five years of progressively responsible experience in land surveying. Experience with AutoCAD and GIS software is a plus!

Salary and Benefits:

We’re not talking chump change here. The salary range is a cool $91,646-$100,655. And did we mention it’s full-time? This isn’t just a job; it’s a career. The position is open until filled, so get your application in pronto!
