FARMINGTON, CTāThe quiet streets of Farmington are usually filled with the rustling of leaves, the hum of traffic, and the sight of holiday decorations. But now, a curious crime has left a bare patch in the townās well-tended garden displayāand many puzzled residents wonder who would swipe some beloved fall foliage.
The Farmington Police Department has investigated the theft of several mumsāyes, those colorful fall flowers. These werenāt just any flowers; they were part of a decorative arrangement lovingly planted by the Farmington Garden Club at the traffic island on High Street and Mountain Road, meant to bring a festive touch to the town.
According to local police, 14 mum plants have vanished without a trace, leaving behind freshly dug holes where the bright blooms once stood. The Farmington PD, not one to stay “mum” about a theft of this magnitude, posted about the incident on social media, humorously declaring, āThe Grinch came early this year.ā It seems the thief, or thieves, were meticulous, carefully removing the plants as if they were pulling off a grand horticultural heist.
Now, the FPD is calling on the public to help solve this flower mystery. Detective Zachary Martin is leading the case and urges anyone with information to contact him at 860-675-2461. Thereās no word yet on whether this theft was the work of a rogue gardener or just a mischievous holiday prankster, but one thingās for sure: someone out there has a lot of mums, and Farmington wants them back.
