Riverside Dining in Farmington: Wood-n-Tap’s Unique Outdoor Experience

The Farmington, CT, restaurant scene has a standout destination that marries delectable dishes with serene vistas. Wood-n-Tap’s Farmington location, nestled along the Farmington River, offers a distinctive dining ambiance that leverages its exceptional riverfront setting.

An Exceptional Outdoor Dining Experience

Unlike its counterparts within the Hartford Restaurant Group’s portfolio, the Wood-n-Tap in Farmington presents an unparalleled dining atmosphere. Co-founder and co-CEO Phil Barnett emphasized the unique appeal of this location, stating, “The view is beautiful. Our outdoor patio is well-known for its ambiance, appearance, and popularity as the place to meet friends and family with the Farmington River as a beautiful backdrop.”

Opened in 2019 at 1593 Farmington Ave., this restaurant replaced a prior location, capitalizing on the superior outdoor environment and additional parking space that the new venue offered. The decision to relocate was heavily influenced by the picturesque river landscape and the opportunity it presented for an enhanced dining experience.

Expanding Outdoor Space

Wood-n-Tap in Farmington has impressively expanded its outdoor seating to accommodate over 100 patrons on the patio, 40 on the deck, and 40 on the grass area. This move quadrupled the original outdoor space, establishing the restaurant as a premier destination for al fresco dining. The establishment also features an outdoor bar and live acoustic music on Tuesday evenings, further enriching the dining experience.

Seasonal Specialties and Summer Menus

Responding to the allure of its scenic outdoor dining area, the restaurant introduced a special summer menu two years ago, catering to patrons’ desire for seafood and other seasonal delicacies. On offer are mouthwatering items such as Connecticut lobster rolls, the Riverview Platter (featuring fried clam strips, shrimp, and cod), Clams Casino Flatbread with garlic, peppers, and bacon, Fajita Steak with Cubanelle peppers and onions, Sausage and Peppers, Island Bites, and Key Lime Pie.

This strategic addition to the menu has been well-received, drawing both locals and visitors eager to enjoy delightful meals against the backdrop of the Farmington River. Barnett observes, “This is the time of year outdoor dining is popular, as it’s not cold, but not super hot either. It’s got a great feel to it. It’s lively, relaxing.” Awards for outdoor dining further attest to the location’s success in creating a vibrant, appealing space for guests.

Future Plans

Wood-n-Tap remains an integral part of the Hartford Restaurant Group’s expansion plans, with a new location slated to open in Groton later this year. The group operates nine restaurants across Connecticut and one in Massachusetts, reinforcing its commitment to providing diverse dining options and exceptional service.
