Dog Licensing in Farmington: Essential Information for Pet Owners

As June approaches, pet owners in Farmington are reminded of their responsibility to license their dogs. Dog licensing for the year will begin on June 1, 2024, with the last day to license without penalty being June 30, 2024. State law mandates that all dogs over six months old must be licensed, and failure to comply will result in a $1.00 per month late fee starting July 1.

A current rabies certificate is required to license your dog. Proof of spaying or neutering is necessary for a reduced licensing fee. Renewal notices will be emailed to those who licensed their dogs in Farmington last year in early June. These notices will include the expiration date of the rabies certificate on file and the dog’s spaying or neutering status. If the rabies certificate has expired, an updated certificate must be presented before a license can be issued.

Renewals can be processed by mail or at the Town Clerk’s Office. If renewing by mail, include a self-addressed stamped envelope, any required certificates, and payment via personal checks, bank checks, or money orders payable to the Town of Farmington. Licensing fees are as follows:

  • Spayed Female or Neutered Male: $8.00
  • Female or Male: $19.00
  • Kennel License: $51.00
  • Transfer from Another Connecticut Town: $1.00
  • Replacement for Lost Tag: $0.50
  • Per Month Penalty for Late Registration: $1.00

All forms of payment are accepted in the office, including charge cards (additional fees apply). Checks or money orders should be made payable to the Town of Farmington.

Adhere to the Town of Farmington’s Code for Dogs, which outlines prohibited acts such as allowing a dog to roam at large, obstructing canine control officers, and failing to license your dog. Violations can result in fines ranging from $25.00 to $100.00, and citations will be issued by the town canine control officer or warden.
